Part-Bird & Part-Woman

These fascinating being are often referred to as handmaidens of Persephone, transformed into bird-like forms to search for her following her abduction by Hades. In early Greek art, they are portrayed as birds with the heads of women, occasionally featuring scaly feet. Over time, depictions evolved to show them as human-headed birds or mermaid-like figures. They resided on rocky, flowery islands, commonly linked to Sirenum Scopuli, and gained notoriety for causing shipwrecks.
